Last year, Dawn visited Hailah Collective in Ocean View with a vision for doulas and childbirth education. She is a passionate, courageous advocate for women's health, especially in marginalized communities. What she began in the government hospital has taken root and is a contagion of the best kind.
Take a moment to eavesdrop on this beautiful feedback from South Africa...
"I just had to share some exciting news with you, especially as we prepare to welcome you back in June!
Since your last visit, our Doula program in the hospital has gained traction, and it’s been such a joy to see it come to life in the ward. I know how deeply you’ve invested in this vision, both through your heart and through the generous sponsorship of products, and I wanted you to share in some of the "fruit" of that investment.
Yesterday, I took Anna, the newest doula to join our team, on her first orientation visit around the ward. To our delight, she ended up staying to support a mom in labour — what a beautiful way to begin her journey with us!
Just last week, during her own orientation, our lovely Gita was also able to assist a mom in early labour. She gave her such helpful support with breathing and releasing tension through contractions. I saw that same mom and her healthy baby boy in the clinic yesterday — both doing so well. Oh, what joy!
This morning, Gita was back at the ward again, supporting another mom through the final stage of labour, delivery, and into postpartum care. The baby latched beautifully, and the mom is recovering well — even after an episiotomy.
The nursing sisters have been incredibly supportive and grateful. They’ve affirmed how much this kind of presence means — not just for the mothers, but for the whole ward environment. There’s a growing sense of collaboration and trust, and it’s just beautiful to witness.
We are so encouraged by these moments. Your support helped lay the foundation for this, and we can’t wait for you to meet the team and see it for yourself in June."
Friends, this is the power of a network of women.
