Gender based violence is not just physical

Recently, it came to our attention that one of our Havilah Collective partners is being targeted by an aggressive crime syndicate in an effort to extort money from her successful business. This is a sinister form of gender based violence.

Not only does South Africa have record numbers of physical gender based violence, but this level of intimidation and manipulation is not uncommon and often goes unreported.

How can we help? Legal aid and financial assistance are one step. There are fierce lawyers who will take up her cause, but it will be a long and arduous process through the judicial system, which will likely take several years.

The mental and emotional toll this takes on a person in an already hyper-vigilant state is tremendous. How long must one withstand the intimidation?
